Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva Protects His Devotees

11 May 2025

In his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam, First Canto, Chapter 15, Text 16 Srila Prabhupada describes how Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva protected His devotee, Prahlāda Mahārāja:

Prahlāda Mahārāja, a small child of only five years, became the object of envy for his great father, Hiraṇyakaśipu, only because of his becoming a pure devotee of the Lord. The demon father employed all his weapons to kill the devotee son, Prahlāda, but by the grace of the Lord he was saved from all sorts of dangerous actions by his father. He was thrown into a fire, into boiling oil, from the top of a hill, and underneath the legs of an elephant, and he was administered poison. At last the father himself took up a chopper to kill his son, and thus Nṛsiṁhadeva appeared and killed the heinous father in the presence of the son. Thus no one can kill the devotee of the Lord.

When we had an armed robbery in our Miami temple I yelled out the name "Nṛsiṁhadeva" and the thieves were soon gone. Just see the power of Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva's name.

Answer

From: Austin, Texas USA
My Dear Shivlila,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.

In this connection we can learn a good lesson from Bhaktivinode Thakur who sings:

tṛṇādhika hīna, kabe nije māni',
sahiṣṇutā-guṇa hṛdoyete āni'
sakale mānada, āpani amānī,
ho'ye āswādibo nāma-rasa-sār

Lower than a blade of grass, more tolerant than a tree —when will my mind attain this quality? Respectful to all, not expecting their honor — then shall I taste the name’s nectar sublime. When, oh when will that day be mine?

I hope this meets you in the best of health
and in a cheerful mood.

Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari
