Hare Krishna, Guru Maharaja,My humble obeisances
I came to ISKCON in 2017 have been been practicing for the past 7 years. I can't chant properly. I haven't gotten any taste, I am doing my chanting mechanically. For example, for three days I chant, and for two days I don't chant. And then four days I chant and for four days I don't chant.
I want to chant properly and consistently. Please help me.
Thanks for blessing with prasadam on your visit to Thiruvananthapuram. I am very grateful to have seen you and heard your Srimad Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-gita lectures.
Thanks, Guru Maharaj
Your humble servant
Answer
From: Thiruvananthapuram, IndiaMy Dear Devotee,
Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
You are not getting taste because you are chanting mechanically.
You are not chanting with love.
Just imagine if someone has a lover how they will say, “I love you.” Will they say it mechanically like a robot? Or will they say it with feeling to show they really mean it?
Understanding this example you should chant in such a way to demonstrate to the person Krishna who is hearing your chanting that you really want to fully belong to Him. In this way you will get a taste for the Holy Names and you will have no difficulty chanting at least 16 rounds every day without fail.
I hope this meets you in the best of health.
Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari
