Lower than the Straw in the Street

What is the position of straw lying in the street? People can walk on it. They can spit on it. Dogs can pass stool on it. No matter what is done to that straw it silently accepts it. In the village the straw is in the lowest position. In his third Siksastakam prayer Lord Caitanya advises us that in order to fully relish the nectar of Lord Sri Krishna's holy names we should always consider ourselves to be lower than the straw in the street.

"One should chant the holy name of the Lord in a humble state of mind, thinking oneself lower than the straw in the street; one should be more tolerant than a tree, devoid of all sense of false prestige, and ready to offer all respect to others. In such a state of mind one can chant the holy name of the Lord constantly."

So let's not torture ourselves by remaining puffed up. Let us all now always consider ourselves to be lower than the straw in the street. In this way we will be able to deep sea dive in unlimited oceans of nectar every time we chant: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare / Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.

Dear Prabhu,
I chant the Hare Krishna mahamantra everyday, and I try to refrain myself from masturbation. But 3 - 4 days after stopping, I lose control.

And also, Prabhu, I heard people saying doing bhakti as a teenager will deviate me from my career and will prevent me from qualifying for the entrance examinations.

It's my humble request, Prabhu, please, please show me such a path that the feeling of masturbation never arises and also to build up my career under the protection of Shri Krishna. I really want to serve Shri Krishna.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me.
