Is the Idea of Changing the World Far Fetched?
Distributing Bhagavad-gita Is Pure Bliss
Sometimes we hear that the idea of changing the world by making it Krishna conscious is far fetched, that it is an impossible idea only given serious consideration by foolish dreamers. But in this connection we find this statement by ISKCON Founder-Acharya, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada:
"My ambition is to spread these books far and wide all over the world so that everyone shall read at least one of our books and that will change his life. If only 1% become devotees, that will change the world."
(from a Letter to: Karandhara Das -- Tokyo 2 May, 1972)
Of course 1% of the human population becoming devotees is no small feat. Since the world population is 7.8 billion, one percent of that is 78 million. To make 78 million people Krishna conscious is of course also staggering to the imagination. But if we consider that ISKCON started with a small handful of members in a tiny little storefront in 1966 and has in the last century expanded to 600 centers with millions of members, it is certainly not inconceivable that at some time in the future we could grow large enough to encompass 1% of the world's population and thus have a phenomenal impact that will changed the course of human history.
