The Timeless Mantra That Keeps Me Sane

Chaos is all around me in a world completely disconnected from Krishna. How do I keep my sanity in a world which has gone completely insane?

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama
Rama Rama, Hare Hare

Question: How to Become Free From Sin?

Respected Srila Gurudeva,

Kindly accept my prostrated obeisances .

Repetitive sinning and atoning seem to like nothing but a waste of time just like an elephant which cleanses his body thoroughly in a lake or reservoir, but as soon as he comes onto the shores he takes dust and throws it all over his body and immediately becomes dirty again.

Although one may cleanse himself in the process of atonement, if he again commits the same sinful acts, what is the use ? How can one ultimately become free from all contamination brought about by the material modes of nature? If one cannot achieve liberation, what is the use of atonement? The cycle of sinful activities and atonement is a vicious circle. How to be free from this suffering? What is the solution to stop this vicious circle ?

Kindly clarify.

Answer: Surrender to Krishna

The process of atonement can free one from the reaction to a particular sin but it does not free one from the tendency to sin. If one surrenders to Krishna, he will develop a taste for serving the Lord and lose his taste for sinful activities. Therefore, instead of gaining some temporary relief through the process of atonement, one should gain permanent relief by surrendering to Krishna.
