New Temporary Location for ISKCON Austin

By Krishna's grace we now have a temporary location for ISKCON Austin until our regular location is repaired from the extensive fire and water damage. It will be probably January before we can move back in. Everyone in this part of the world is invited to attend our regular programs. From now up until 20 August we are celebrating Jhulan Yatra, the swing ceremony of Sri Sri Radha and Krishna, every evening starting at 6:00pm. Our regular Sunday Love Feast program happens every Sunday starting at 4:30pm. On August 20 we will celebrate Balarama Jayanti starting at 6:00pm. On August 28 we will celebrate Janmastami followed by Srila Prabhupada's Vyasa Puja on 29 August. Plus every morning we have Mangala Arati, Tulasi worship, and Srimad Bhagavatam class. The address is 1704 Lynnville Trail in north Austin near the intersection of Howard Land and Metric. Our phone number is 512-835-2121.

Question: How To Make Desires Beneficial?

Gurudeva,
Please accept my respectful obeisances.

How do desires arise? Can they channeled in such a way that they are beneficial rather than a disturbance? Kindly remove my ignorance and enlighten me.

Your humble servant,

Anil Sarma

Answer: Offer All Desires to Krishna

Desire originates in Krishna as does everything else. Because Krishna desires therefore we also naturally desire. So desire in and of itself is not bad. It is only when our desires become perverted that they become a source of misery for us. In other words, since desire comes from Krishna it is meant to be offered back to Krishna. This is the original form of recycling. What happens when we don’t recycle? The atmosphere becomes polluted. So when we do not recycle our desires back to Krishna we become polluted by the materialistic atmosphere and suffer in the cycle of repeated birth and death. And when we offer our desires in the service of Krishna they become our best friends. They carry us across the Viraja river, the border between the material an spiritual worlds.
