Tame the Wild Senses or Become an Animal

In material consciousness we are controlled by our wild senses, and in spiritual consciousness or Krishna consciousness we tame our senses. In other words, we bring them completely under our control. One who is controlled by his senses is dragged by them down to the animal kingdom in his next birth. And one who controls his senses becomes elevated in his consciousness, which will guarantee his elevation after leaving his present body. Simple restraint of the senses cannot bring them permanently under control because the senses by their very nature always want some engagement. But if we engage them in the service of Krishna (who is known as Hrishikesha, the master of senses), they will become fully under our control, and we will relish the sweetest happiness at every moment.

Question: How to Conquer Sex Desire?

Dear Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances,
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Some days back you shared a nice thought entitled, "Billions of Times Better than Sex," which described the superiority of Krishna consciousness over sex pleasure. I have some questions in this regard:

Is it possible to completely conquer sexual urges with one's mind and intelligence? Is it possible to conquer completely "Mr. Lust", the greatest enemy of this world in this lifetime itself? And if yes, what is the process? Can one be pure in ones mind, thoughts, words and actions while dealing with opposite, sex either in terms of devotional engagements or in the material world outside.

Kindly clarify.

Answer: See All Women as Your Mother

Although one may temporarily subdue sex desire by utilization of mind and intelligence, it is not possible to permanently conquer over sex desire in this way. If one wants to permanently evict the rascal tenant, Mr. Lust, from his heart, this is only possible when one gets the higher taste of loving Krishna awakened within his heart. This is accomplished by deeply absorbing your mind regularly every day in Krishna by sincerely chanting the Hare Krishna mahamantra:

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare

By sincerely chanting Hare Krishna every day as much as possible you are personally associating with Krishna, whose association is so wonderful that one who regularly associates with Him will become so satisfied by that association that he will gradually completely lose interest in all forms of material sense gratification even the including the granddaddy of them all, sex desire.

The way to keep a cool brain when dealing with women is to always see them as your mother, not as an object of sex enjoyment. This is why in the Vedic culture every women is addressed as mother except for one's wife.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee.
