Defeat the Sun and Attain Immortality

It is stated in Srimad Bhagavatam 2.3.17:

āyur harati vai puṁsām
udyann astaṁ ca yann asau
tasyarte yat-kṣaṇo nīta
uttama-śloka-vārtayā

"Both by rising and by setting, the sun decreases the duration of life of everyone, except one who utilizes the time by discussing topics of the all-good Personality of Godhead.

With its every rising and setting the sun is robbing the living being of his duration of life. But one who absorbs himself in hearing and chanting Krishna katha, the topics of the Lord, defeats the influence of the sun by the revival of his immortal existence.

Question: Why the Lord Allows Degradation?

Dear Hare Krishna Teacher, Sankarshan Das Adhikari,

You give me so much. Thank you! Your mind and attention have created so much kindness in my life. You have shared with me what is the most important in every human life: chanting the Hare Krishna Mahamantra.

I have read A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada's books about Krishna consciousness, but there are things I don't understand. God is the most powerful, and everything is acting according to His will. So why does He allow the soul to become degraded in his consciousness and forget the Lord? Does it make God happy to see so many souls in degradation?

Please help me to understand that purpose, to understand the true and essential philosophy, and never forget about God.

With Respect,

Julija

Answer: To Facilitate Your Liberation

Srila Prabhupada has nicely answered your first question as follows in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 3.12.3:

“When the living entity prefers to misuse his independence and glide down towards nescience, the all-merciful Lord first of all tries to protect him from the trap, but when the living entity persists in gliding down to hell, the Lord helps him to forget his real position. The Lord helps the falling living entity glide down to the lowest point, just to give him the chance to see if he is happy by misusing his independence.”

So the Lord allows the degradation of the living being who wants to be degraded so that he can experience it first hand and decide to come back to the Lord. Krishna is not happy to see His beloved children suffering. Therefore He comes again and again to this world and sends His pure devotees to induce us to return back to home, back to Godhead as soon as possible.

The essential philosophy is that you are the eternal servant of God. You foolishly abandoned His service to try to enjoy separately from Him. Now He has given full facility for you to come back to Him by chanting His holy names with love and following the teachings of Bhagavad-gita as it is.
