Always Keep a Cool Head

This material world is a full of so many varieties of uncertainties. As soon as we feel that everything is okay, another calamity befalls us. We arrived in India on 7 March minus our lost luggage, but it was all recovered within several days. Now as we prepare to go to Europe, where I will teaching a mini-course on pure devotional service at Bhaktivedanta College in Radhadesh, we find out that our flights to Brussels have been canceled due to a strike by the airline employees. Now after a half day's endeavor, we have finally managed to book an alterative means of getting to Europe in time to teach the course. Such upheavals are par for the course in this material existence. Therefore the intelligent thing to do is to be always expecting them and stay in cool-headed Krishna consciousness by always depending on Krishna in all circumstances.

Question: Mentally Reciting the Name of Allah

May I ask your high reverence a question please?

I am a Sufi follower (just a beginner). My practice consists of mentally and loudly reciting as well as visualizing (with full concentration) the name of God, Allah, as much as I can do it day and night.

I have studied hypnosis and self hypnosis, so now I can easily enter into different kind of trances lighter or deeper, shorter or longer. How can I benefit from these trances to transcend my body and thoughts? For example by reciting mentally the name of God in deep trances or what? Please guide me. Thank you very much. Indeed I am so grateful to you.

Answer: Audible Chanting is Much Better

I am very happy to hear that you are reciting the name of Allah because reciting God's names is the universal religion which will deliver the sincere chanters back to the spiritual world. It cuts through all designations such as Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Jew, etc.

You mention that you are mentally reciting the name of God. But kindly note in this connection that the scriptures recommend that in this age we should audibly chant the names of God. While silently meditating on God's name is certainly beneficial, it is nothing compared to the benefit of audibly chanting and hearing the names of God. We derive the greatest benefit by audibly pronouncing the names of God because this brings us into direct association with God Himself. So my best advice to you is that you should chant the name of Allah audibly on your lips as much as possible every day, especially in the early morning hours before sunrise.
