Tuning in to the Supreme

The ether is fill of thousands of subtle waves. Just consider all of the TV shows, radio shows, and mobile phone conversations that are being transmitted through the atmosphere at every minute. It's inconceivable, but yet with the suitable reception equipment you can watch so many TV shows, hear so many radio programs, or participate in so many telephone calls. Similarly with the proper equipment properly utilized you can tune into the supreme live broadcast from the spiritual world and even enter into it and become a part of it. You already have the proper equipment, your consciousness. Now all you have to do is learn how to properly utilize your consciousness.

Question: Krishna is In and Not In Everything?...

In the 14 June 2007 "Thought for the Day" you quoted this verse:

yo mam pasyati sarvatra
sarvam ca mayi pasyati
tasyaham na pranasyami
sa ca me na pranasyati

"For one who sees Me everywhere and sees everything in Me, I am never lost, nor is he ever lost to Me."
--Bhagavad-gita 6.30

But in BG 9.4, Lord Krishna says:

mayā tatam idaḿ sarvaḿ
jagad avyakta-mūrtinā
mat-sthāni sarva-bhūtāni
na cāhaḿ teṣv avasthitaḥ

"By Me, in My unmanifested form, this entire universe is pervaded. All beings are in Me, but I am not in them."

So should we also consider that Krishna is not in everything simultaneously? Please help me understand the differences between these 2 verses.

Thank you very much.

Answer: Here's How...

Yes, it is a fact that Krishna is within everything and not within everything, both at the same time.

It may appear contradictory that Krishna in one verse says that He is everywhere and in another describes that He is not present within the living beings. We also know from other verses that Krishna is present within all beings as the Supersoul.

So what could Krishna possibly mean when He says that He is not within the living beings?

He is saying that although He is everywhere, He is simultaneously aloof from this material creation. This is something like a wealthy factory owner who has set up the managerial systems in his factory so expertly that every employee feels his presence and does his job expertly even though the factory owner is aloof from the day to day activities on the assembly line while he is somewhere else engaged in other activities such as meeting with dignitaries, etc. Of course any employee who is very keen to have a personal relationship with the owner can, by sincere service, become his intimate associate and even be allowed to participate in the owner's private family affairs.
