Bring Your Mind Under Control
Lord Sri Krishna very kindly enlightens us in Bhagavad-gita, Chapter Six, Text 26 as follows:
yato yato niścalati
manaś cañcalam asthiram
tatas tato niyamyaitad
ātmany eva vaśaṁ nayet
"From wherever the mind wanders due to its flickering and unsteady nature, one must certainly withdraw it and bring it back under the control of the self."
This controlling of the mind means to fix the mind on Krishna. By doing so one becomes completely peaceful and happy. Srila Prabhupada elaborates as follows on this verse:
"The nature of the mind is flickering and unsteady. But a self-realized yogi has to control the mind; the mind should not control him. One who controls the mind (and therefore the senses as well) is called goswami, or svami, and one who is controlled by the mind is called go-dasa, or the servant of the senses. A goswami knows the standard of sense happiness. In transcendental sense happiness, the senses are engaged in the service of Hrisikesha, or the supreme owner of the senses -- Krishna. Serving Krishna with purified senses is called Krishna consciousness. That is the way of bringing the senses under full control. What is more, that is the highest perfection of yoga practice."
One who seriously practices this art of keeping the mind fixed on Krishna becomes supremely happy in all times, places, and circumstances.
What are good ways to serve Krishna?
Your humble servant,
Deepali Mavani
My Dear Deepali,
Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
Service to Krishna begins with the tongue. We engage our tongues in chanting Hare Krishna and tasting Krishna prasadam, the vegetarian foodstuffs which have been offered to Krishna with love and devotion.
So you should every chant the Hare Krishna mantra on japa mala beads at least 16 rounds per day and restrict your diet to only eating Krishna prasadam. This will enable you to advance rapidly on the pathway of Krishna consciousness.
I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.
