Beware of the Arrows of Cupid

Since time immemorial we have remained captivated by our attraction for the opposite sex. Instead of becoming attracted to Krishna and thus qualifying ourselves to return to our original home in the spiritual world we have been captivated by Cupid's arrows having more interest in sex pleasure than in a life of devotion. Now we have joined the Krishna consciousness movement to get free from this lusty tendency by awakening the real happiness of love of Krishna (God) within our hearts. Since Lord Sri Krishna has sent many beautiful women to join our Krishna consciousness movement we must be very careful to see them as Krishna's property and engage them in Krishna's service rather than trying to enjoy sex pleasure with them. This is why our founder-acharya, His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada, has given us the following very important instruction:

"A devotee's duty is to try to engage all beautiful women in the service of Krishna, not to try to enjoy them. A devotee is not pierced by the arrows of Cupid, because he sees everything in relationship with Krishna. That is real renunciation. He does not accept anything for his own sense gratification but engages everything and everyone in the service of Krishna. This is the process of Krishna consciousness."

If we will sincerely and carefully follow this instruction of Srila Prabhupada, our movement will be successful in inundating the entire world with love of God. But if we are carried away by the arrows of Cupid, our movement will be a useless disgrace and will become another useless bogus spiritual organization incapable of delivering anyone back to home, back to Godhead. So we must be always very careful in this connection.

Question: Duties Other Than Devotional Service?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

All glories to you & Srila Prabhupada!
I pay my humble obeisances unto your lotus feet.
I read in Srimad Bhagvatam that the main or supreme occupational duty of every individual is to render devotional service unto Krishna. Arjuna was a pure devotee of the Lord who served Krishna with love. But Krishna asked him to perform his religious duty of fighting as he was a ksatriya (a warrior), otherwise he would incur sins for neglecting his duty. So in this context, I want to know that do we also have duties other than devotional service, that we must perform or otherwise we would incur sin?

Answer: Our Only Duty is Devotional Service

From: Kaunas, Lithuania

My Dear Saloni,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

We do not have duties other than devotional service. Because ordered Arjuna to fight, for Arjuna that fighting was devotional service.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.
Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari
