Don't Approach Guru for Material Purposes

Today, 6 March 2018, I have received two requests from persons in India who want me to help them get jobs in the USA. This is not the purpose for approaching Krishna or approaching the spiritual master. This is the defect of modern day so-called religion. People approach guru and Krishna for material purposes instead of for awakening love of
God within their hearts. Instead of thinking how they can serve guru and Krishna for getting out of this material existence and going back home, back to Godhead, they want guru and Krishna to serve them by helping them get better facility for sense gratification here in this material world. This is compared to someone who is on a sinking ship who instead of thinking how to get into the lifeboat is thinking how to get a nicer cabin on the ship.

Answer: Don't Approach Guru for Material Purposes

The purpose for approaching guru is how to get out of this material world, not for how to get a better facility for sense gratification here in this material world. The spiritual master can liberate you from all miseries by taking you back to home, back to Godhead. But instead you are foolishly approaching him how to get a better facility for suffering here in this material world.

If you are sick, you go to a doctor. And if your car is not running properly, you go to an auto mechanic. Similarly if you need a job, go to an employment counselor; and if you want permanent happiness, go to a guru.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here. But at least may it suffice for me to say for now that Gayatri taught me what it means to be a soft-hearted devotee of the Lord and she gave me my first cooking lesson, teaching me how to make cauliflower pakoras, and Amarendra taught me the art of how to preach strongly, intelligently, and coolly to defeat opposing arguments.
