Mission Dedication In Spite of Intense Pain

I do not know what Krishna has in store for me. The treatment that was supposed to cure the devastating pain which is up and down my left leg has so far been a failure. I do not know how much longer Krishna wants to stay in this body. But I know one for sure. No matter were I am or what body I am in, I eternally dedicated to my spiritual master to assist him in his world deliverance mission. This gives my mind peace and happiness in spite of the horrible pain I am feeling.

Question: How to Serve in Separation from Spiritual Master?

Hare Krishna Gurudev
Please accept my humble obeisances
All glories to Srila Prabhupada
All glories to you and Gurumataji

Gurudeva, once I had asked you how can I please you and you had replied by becoming a pure devotee of Krishna. And while once away from you I had asked how can I serve you and you had replied that by chanting everyday, following the principles and following your instructions I am serving you. Today when you mentioned service in class I started to doubt again weather I am actually serving. I am not able to associate with you physically, Gurudeva, but I never feel that I am away from you. Thank you for such mercy, Gurudeva, and please forgive me for my inability to properly serve. Somehow by your mercy I’m holding on, Gurudeva, and somehow I feel that slowly I am improving. Gurudeva, I have been wondering that is physical service in physical association the only way to serve? How can a person like me, who is not able to physically associate serve you? Gurudeva, I understand that everything can be engaged in Krishna’s service and no material condition can check devotional service. How can I serve in my present position?

My Dear Karan,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Srila Prabhupada has nicely answered your question as follows:

"To feel separation from the Spiritual Master or Krishna is very good position. That means one who is in pure love with Krishna and His Representative, Spiritual Master, he thinks always of Them. And this thinking process is Krishna consciousness. If we can think always of Krishna even in separation, that is Krishna Consciousness. And in the absolute platform, there is no difference of separation and meeting. The separation is also meeting, rather in separation one relishes the loving relationship more tasty. So don't be disappointed that you are separated from me, I am also always thinking of you how you are making progress there. And I am always expecting your letters that you have already opened a center there, and you are working very nicely."---from a Letter to: Krsna dasa -- Seattle 21 October, 1968

So you should be writing me regularly with reports of your sadhana and preaching.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari
