On a Marathon to Save the World

We are on a marathon the save the world because our spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada, ordered us to deliver the entire the world. Whether this is possible or impossible is not an issue for us because by the grace of God even that which is impossible can easily become possible. Our duty is simply to always remember, worship, and try to successfully execute this and the other orders which we have received from our spiritual master. This is our perfection. Whether the world is saved or not, at least we will be saved. And those who follow us will also be saved. They will be delivered back to the transcendental kingdom of God where they will live an eternal existence, full of knowledge, and full of bliss.

Question: Why Count While Chanting?

Maharaja, I've always been a traveling chanter and many questions are asked to me by my co-passengers. The one asked yesterday was a little tricky. The question was, "Why chant God's name by counting it, like 1 round, 2 rounds and up to 16 rounds?" According to him, japa should be a natural process and calling out God's names should not be not be restricted to numbers. Please guide me.

Your humble servant,

Sini

Answer: So That You Will Chant Sufficiently

Here's how to answer such questions:

Krishna orders us in the Bhagavad-gita that we should constantly chant His names. But instead of obeying this order, we are twenty-four hours a day engaged in material sense gratification. Because in our present state of material consciousness we are not able to naturally chant 24 hours daily, we therefore require a daily numerical quota of at least 16 rounds so gradually that we will become sufficiently purified to attain the stage where we can naturally chant the names of the Lord constantly. The numerical strength requirement does not in any way restrict or limit the potency of the Lord's holy names. Indeed the opposite is true. By accepting the principle of chanting the Lord's names with numerical strength, as taught the Six Goswamis of Vrindavan, the names gain so much potency that by chanting them one becomes qualified to regain his original identity in the amazing transcendental pastimes of the Supreme Personality of Godhead in that wondrous spiritual sky where every living being is constantly engaged in serving the Supreme Lord 24 hours a day.
