Question: How to Be Sure a Devotee Went Back to Godhead?

Please accept my humble obeisances.

When a devotee departs, we say that he went back to Godhead. How sure are we that he really went back to Godhead?

Is it true when a soul leaves his body he will be able to meet his close ones who have departed?

Today a devotee said that Madhvacarya met Vyasadeva although they were from different yugas. Is it possible to meet great souls from different yugas?

Answer: If He Was Completely Free From Material Desires

We do not automatically assume that when a devotee leaves his body that he went back to Godhead. Srila Prabhupada explains that so long as we have even a pinch of material desire we will have to take birth again. So for a devotee to go back to Godhead he must be completely free from all material desires. If he has reached this stage, his going back to home, back to Godhead is guaranteed. Otherwise he will get very good situation in this material world to continue cultivating his Krishna consciousness.

When you mention meeting his close associates upon his departure, which close associates are you referring to? In our unlimited millions of lifetimes we have at one time or other been a close associate with every single living entity in the material world.

Srila Vyasadeva is still living in the Himalayas and was met there by Madhvacarya some centuries ago in the Kali yuga. So there is there is no question that they were living in different yugas.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me.
