Sweet Krishna Consciousness in Latin America

21 January 2010--After ten days of sharing the nectar of Krishna consciousness in Latin America we are flying out tonight to Los Angeles, which will be our last stop before returning next Monday to Bhaktivedanta Ashram, our home base in Austin, Texas. Krishna consciousness in Latin America has a very sweet flavor because the people here have a simple, easy-going, warm-hearted nature which makes them very open to receiving in a very loving way a traveling preacher of Krishna consciousness. My experience in lecturing all over the world is that my inspiration to speak comes to a great extent from enthusiasm of the listeners. When the hearers are full of gusto I naturally can speak with more inspiration. For this reason Latin America is one of my favorite preaching spots in the world. I will be returning here in January of 2011.

Question: Eating During an Eclipse?

It is said that during a lunar or solar eclipse, one should not eat or drink anything and should only chant God's names. Nothing else is permissible. Then how come our ISKCON devotees consumed food or prasadam during the new year lunar eclipse night?

Answer: Krishna Prasadam Can Be Taken Any Time

Such rules are good for materialists to induce them to reduce their sense gratification and chant the names of God. But according to the authoritative statement of the Padma Purana such rules do not apply to those engaged in taking Krishna prasadam.

na deśa-niyamas tatra
na kāla-niyamas tathā
prāptam annaṁ drutaṁ śiṣṭair
bhoktavyaṁ harir abravīt

"The prasādam of Lord Kṛṣṇa is to be eaten by gentlemen as soon as it is received. There should be no hesitation. There are no regulative principles concerning time and place. This is the order of the Supreme Personality of Godhead."

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here. But at least may it suffice for me to say for now that Gayatri taught me what it means to be a soft-hearted devotee of the Lord and she gave me my first cooking lesson, teaching me how to make cauliflower pakoras, and Amarendra taught me the art of how to preach strongly, intelligently, and coolly to defeat opposing arguments. Who is this Krishna?

Krishna is not a myth, nor is He an ordinary historical personality. He is the Supreme All-Attractive Personality of Godhead. He is the oldest of all while simultaneously maintaining the form of a 16 year old youth.
