Relishing Unlimited Happiness

If we minimize our material sense gratification to the level of our need and not our greed, and if we then engage our senses in the service of the Hrishikesha, the master of the senses, Lord Sri Krishna, we will then enter into a sublime, divine state of consciousness known as Krishna consciousness. This enlightened state is the highest stage of perfected consciousness. In this purified state of consciousness one relishes unlimited happiness within himself at every minute. This state of being is available for anyone who would like to attain it and carefully and faithfully follows the instructions given in the Bhagavad-gita.

Question: Why are Eggs not Allowed?

I have recently begun to practice the 4 regulative principles at home, as you suggested in your last email to me. My chanting is not yet up to 16 rounds. My question is, why are eggs considered a "no-no"? They are not alive, not even fertilized, so I am not taking my brother's or sisters life by eating them. Please explain the Vedic version of this issue. Thank you kindly. Love always...Tommi

Answer: They are Another Form of Flesh

An egg is considered in the same category with meat and fish because it is another form of flesh. Such foods are mentioned as prohibited in the Srimad Bhagavatam 7.15.7:

na dadyād āmiṣaḿ śrāddhe
na cādyād dharma-tattvavit
muny-annaiḥ syāt parā prītir
yathā na paśu-hiḿsayā

"A person fully aware of religious principles should never offer anything like meat, eggs or fish in the śrāddha ceremony, and even if one is a kṣatriya, he himself should not eat such things. When suitable food prepared with ghee is offered to saintly persons, the function is pleasing to the forefathers and the Supreme Lord, who are never pleased when animals are killed in the name of sacrifice."
