Counteracting the Evil

We are witnessing over the course of time a proliferation of evil throughout the world. This a very disturbing trend. However, for students of the Vedic literature this is not at all surprising because the Vedas describe that we are 5,000 years into the Age of Kali, the most evil and contaminated of all the ages. That's the bad news.

But now for the good news. The Vedas also describe an antidote for the evil, poisonous effects of the Age of Kali. That antidote is known as the Hare Krishna mahamantra. In this regard it is stated in the Kalisantaraṇa Upaniṣad as follows:

hare kṛṣṇa hare kṛṣṇa
kṛṣṇa kṛṣṇa hare hare
hare rāma hare rāma
rāma rāma hare hare
iti ṣoḍaśakaḿ nāmnāḿ
kali-kalmaṣa-nāśanam
nātaḥ parataropāyaḥ
sarva-vedeṣu dṛśyate

"The sixteen words composed of thirty-two syllables-- Hare Kṛishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare -- are the only means of counteracting the evil effects of the Kali-yuga. After searching through all the Vedic literature, one cannot find a method of religion for this age so sublime as the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra."

The more we chant the Hare Krishna mantra, the more we become saved from the contaminating influence of Kali, and the more of a counteracting impact we can have to neutralize the evil atmosphere which is more and more enveloping this planet.

No matter how I try to concentrate on the Holy Name my minds constantly runs away. I think about anything, only not about Krishna. I try to concentrate on the sounds of Holy Name, but still my mind runs away. What to do?

To bring your mind under control all you have to do is to pray to Krishna to help you keep your mind fixed on Him. Every time your mind runs way beg Krishna to help you keep it fixed on Him.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here.
