At the present time the rice farmers in Texas are in a critical situation. They are lacking sufficent water to grow their rice crops. In this connect Lord Sri Krishna states in the Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 3, Text 14: annād bhavanti bhūtāni parjanyād anna-sambhavaḥ yajñād bhavati parjanyo yajñaḥ karma-samudbhavaḥ "All living bodies subsist on food grains, which are produced from rains. Rains are produced by performance of yajña [sacrifice], and yajña is born of prescribed duties." Because they are not performing the yajña of chanting the Holy Names of God they are not getting suficient rainfall. And this situation will get worse and worse until they agree to perform the sankirtana yajña. So we hope that day will comes soon when the government leaders realize that it is their duty to take the loving guidance of Lord Krishna's devotee on how to run their countries. In his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 3.8.27 Srila Prabhupada very wonderfully describes the transcendental competition between the Lord and His devotees: "Devotional service to the Lord is very much obliging to Him. There are many transcendentalists in different fields of spiritual activities, but devotional service to the Lord is unique. Devotees do not ask anything from the Lord in exchange for their service. Even the most desirable liberation is refused by devotees, although offered by the Lord. Thus the Lord becomes a kind of debtor to the devotees, and He can only try to repay the devotees' service with His ever-enchanting smile. These both confirm what we have learned from the Vedic wisdom about the law of karma. So we can understand from this that there will be severe karmic reactions from the more than 120,000 human babies that are being murdered every day by abortion. This abortion problem can immediately be solved if people take to Krishna consciousness because a Krishna conscious person will only have sex when there is a desire to have a child.
