Here's How Lord Jagannatha Became Manifested

Thought for Day--14 January 2026

It seems mysterious how Krishna manifests Himself in the form of Lord Jagannatha. My beloved senior Godbrother, His Grace Sriman Achyutananda Prabhu, has very nicely described in his book Blazing Sadhus how this happened.

His Royal Highness Sri Krishna, the Lord of the opulent city of Dwarka, the Lord of the universe, is always longing for His days in Braj Vrindavan when He played with the cowherd boys and His gopis. Once Rohini, the mother of Balaram, described the Braj pastimes to the queens in Dwarka. She told them to shut all the doors because these tales are very confidential and if Krishna hears them He may run away to Vrindavan. Krishna, Balaram, and Subhadra listened outside the door, side by side. Hearing about Braj, They melted in ecstasy. Their arms and legs sunk into Their torsos, and Their faces swelled into wide-eyed smiles. That is the form of the Jagannath Deity worshiped now in wood (daru brahma) and eternally fixed in ecstasy in the temple of Puri.

So just imagine the unlimited ecstasy of deeply absorbing ourselves in hearing, describing, and meditating upon Krishna's Braja Lila. As Krishna was transformed, we can also be transformed.

Prabhupada says in the Gita that no one can establish the soul’s existence beyond the proof of Vedic wisdom.

Most people today have a scientific mindset. How can one make them understand that they are souls without quoting scriptures, since they likely won’t believe them?

A little child rides a tricycle, then a bicycle, then a motorcycle, and then a car. The vehicle changes but the driver remains the same.

Similarly, due to a constant flux of the chemicals that constitute your material body you do not have the same physical body you had ten years ago. Even your bones have been chemically renewed.

But still you can remember experiences you had when your body was completely different. This proves that you have an existence beyond your material body.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in a cheerful mood.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me.
