Hare Krishna is Where It's At

Thought for Day--16 January 2026

In the lingo of the countercultural youth — the hippies, ten thousand of whom in the 1960s and 1970s became Śrīla Prabhupāda’s first disciples — we could say, “Hare Kṛṣṇa is where it’s at. You dig?” This means: “Do you understand that Kṛṣṇa consciousness is the perfection of existence?”

Śrīla Prabhupāda was very expert in preaching according to time, place, and circumstance. For example, when he first came to preach Krishna consciousness in San Francisco, his center was in Haight-Ashbury, the hippie neighborhood. When a reporter asked him about his center, just see how he replied:

Reporter: "Downstairs, you said you were inviting everyone to Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Does that include the Haight-Ashbury Bohemians and beatniks?"
Prabhupāda: "Yes, everyone, including you or anybody else, be he or she what is called an "acidhead' or a hippie or something else. But once he is accepted for training, he becomes something else from what he had been before."

("Acidhead" is a term that was used for someone who regularly takes LSD.)

Srila Prabhupada is the most empowered preacher of Krishna bhakti. In due course of time we will see how his books will make the whole world Krishna conscious.

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Thank you for always confirming that my donation reaches Your Grace. Since the transfer goes through Romanian banks, I sometimes worry it could get delayed or lost.

I also wanted to mention that I really enjoy the new format of the “Thought for the Day” newsletter. It is much easier to read and follow on my devices.

It has now been one year since my Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai arrived, and I continue to serve Them daily exactly as you instructed. I know that all strength and inspiration come only through Your Grace and Gurumataji, and I pray to remain under this mercy and protection for the rest of my life.

I also have a question. Since Christmas recently passed, a long-standing question resurfaced for me. Christianity emphasizes the Son, while the identity of “the Father” often remains vague. Is Yahweh in our tradition identified as Lord Vishnu / Narayana, or is it Lord Brahma? I am confused about this and would be grateful for your guidance.

Yahweh is accepted as a name for the Supreme Personality of Godhead: Krishna, Narayana or Vishnu.
