How the Word "Blooped" Entered ISKCON
Thought for Day--11 January 2026
Here's how the word "blooped" entered our Krishna consciousness movement as told by Acyutananda Prabhu in his book Blazing Sadhus:Swamiji’s lectures often included the metaphor of falling back into the material illusory ocean of maya. He would gesture as if throwing a stone.
One day Vince got confused and yelled, “I don’t get it. It’s just another religion, another sectarian cult.” He stomped out of the temple. Brahmananda and I looked at each other, and I said, “He fell back into the ocean of maya.” Brahmananda made the gesture of throwing a stone and said, “Bloop.” After that, every time a devotee left we’d say, “Ah, he’s blooped.” Or if someone was misunderstanding we’d say, “I think he’s gonna bloop.” Or when someone didn’t show up for a few weeks, we’d say, “He’s probably blooped.” Bloop became our word for leaving. Some weeks later the Swami asked, “Where’s that boy Vince?” Brahmananda said, “Oh, he blooped.” Prabhupada slowly turned to Brahmananda. “Bloop? What is this bloop?” Brahmananda gulped and meekly said, “Well, you’ve been explaining how if we do not catch onto the lotus feet of Krishna, again we will fall into the ocean of material illusion. So, like a stone falling into water, it makes that sound—bloop.”
Prabhupada paused, considered the word, and said, “Well then, if he has blooped, what can be done?”
My dear readers, kindly don't any of you give pain to Srila Prabhupada by blooping.
Hoping this meets you in good health and in a cheerful mood,
Your ever well-wisher.

Srila Gurudeva, in today’s Srimad-Bhagavatam class (6 January 2026), I asked you the following question:
“Some devotees take Harinam initiation and Brahmin initiation from different initiating spiritual masters due to circumstances. I am confused — in that situation, who is the ultimate authority for the disciple: the spiritual master who gives Harinam initiation, or the spiritual master who gives Brahmin initiation?”
I am writing this email to confirm whether I have correctly understood your reply. I have understood that it is improper etiquette — and offensive — to take Brahmin initiation from another spiritual master unless the spiritual master who gave Harinam initiation has departed from this world. If the spiritual master departs, then the disciple may take Brahmin initiation from another spiritual master, but the spiritual master who gave Harinam initiation remains the ultimate authority for the disciple. Srila Gurudeva, please correct me if I have misunderstood anything.
Thank you.
Your servant,
Sadbhuja Das

From: Palo Alto, California USAMy Dear Sadbhuja,
Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.
The guru who gives first initiation is the disciple’s ultimate spiritual authority, and his instructions should be accepted as the disciple’s very life and soul for all of eternity. Even if that spiritual master departs before giving second initiation, and the disciple later receives second initiation from another qualified guru, still the first initiating spiritual master remains eternally the primary and exclusive spiritual authority for that disciple.
It is not that the disciple may neglect the instructions of the guru who gave first initiation and instead follow the instructions of the guru who gave second initiation. If he does so, this is called guru-aparādha, the greatest of all offenses, and it will bring havoc and ruination to his spiritual life.
I hope this meets you in the best of health and in a cheerful mood.
Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das
