The Phenomenal Qualities of Krishna's Devotees

Krishna's devotees manifest the most astouding qualities. In his book, The Teaching of Lord Kapila, Srila Prabhupada gives two examples of this: "Prahlāda Mahārāja, a five-year-old boy, had to undergo a great deal of suffering at the hands of his father, who was torturing him for being a devotee. The boy was trampled by elephants, thrown from a mountain, placed in burning oil and thrown into a snake pit, yet he was silent during this whole ordeal. Similarly, Haridāsa Ṭhākura, a Muhammadan by birth, was a very great devotee and was always chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. That was his only fault. However, the Muslim Kazi called him forth and said, 'You are a Muhammadan, born in a great Muhammadan family, yet you are chanting this Hindu Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra. What is this?' Haridāsa Ṭhākura mildly replied, 'My dear sir, there are many Hindus who have become Muhammadans. Suppose I have become a Hindu? What is wrong with this?' The Kazi became very angry and ordered Haridāsa Ṭhākura to be whipped in twenty-two bazaars. This essentially meant that he was to be beaten to death, but because he was such a great devotee he did not actually feel the pain. Although a devotee may sometimes have to suffer, he tolerates the suffering. At the same time, he is very kind to conditioned souls and tries to elevate them to Kṛṣṇa consciousness. This is one of the primary features of a devotee's life. People are always putting a sādhu into difficulties, but he does not give up his job, which is to spread Kṛṣṇa consciousness so that others may become happy."

So let us aspire to develop such qualities such as these two pure devotees,

Question: What to with Darwin's Followers?

Hare Krishna Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Guru, Krishna and Vaishnavas.

Devarshi Gangaji, Telangana state vice-president of Breakthrough Science Society, said, “The fact that the biological world is constantly changing and that humans have evolved from some species of ape have been the cornerstones of rational thinking ever since Charles Darwin proposed his theory of natural selection.”

It seems scientist are forgetting that science is supposed to be based on evidence. Darwin's theory has no evidence till date. The lack of knowledge of spirit soul as taught in the Bhagavad Gita seems to be the root cause.

Though I myself come from a Science background, I am curious to know how we can deal with the false ego of the (so called) Scientists without sounding dogmatic. Should we be bothered? Especially considering that many youngsters consider such Scientists as role models?

Though I wish I could make a difference I find myself helpless. I pray that your upcoming book helps spark the much needed interest in researching the timeless teachings of the Bhagavad Gita. I pray that Lord Krishna empowers you to be the Jagad-Guru (as Srila Prabhupada authorised you to be).

Regards,
Bhakta Dhiraj.

Answer: How Do They Explain Vyasadeva?

From: Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Dhiraj,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Prabhupada said," Darwin claims that in the distant past no really intelligent man existed, that man simply evolved from the apes. If there was no intelligent brain in the past, how is it that these Vedic scriptures were written thousands and thousands of years ago? How do they explain a sage like Vyasadeva?'

I hope this meets you in the best of health.
Your ever well-wisher,

We Did Not Evolve From Apes
