Srila Prabhupada Turned the Hippies into Happies

Srila Prabhupada very much appreciated the hippie movement that was in America and Europe in the 60's and early 70's. In fact he said the hippie movement was Krishna's special arrangement to help him get this movement started. Here's some of the other things he said about the hippie movment:

"Actually, the hippies are our best customers. Almost all of our important disciples are recruited from that group,"
(from a Letter to: Goursundar -- Los Angeles 13 July, 1969)

"I want that all the hippies should come to me and I shall solve their problems. Actually all these hippies should join us."

(from a Letter to: Satsvarupa -- Delhi 25 November, 1971)

"This is the best path, Kṛṣṇa consciousness, because people are becoming happy. From hippies they are becoming happies now. Therefore, it is the best path. They were confused, frustrated, now they have got hopes of life. Thousands of boys and girls, they are admitting that, 'You have given us a life.' Ask any of the students, they will admit. That is the best path."

There is a hill in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park that was so popular with the hippies that it was named "Hippie Hill". Below are two pictures of Srila Prabhupada on Hippie HIl engaged in the supreme welfare acitivity of pushing forward the Krishna Consciousness Movement.

Sometimes with devotees, when our desires don’t get fulfilled, in those situations we feel bad. And in those circumstances we don’t know how to take rejection properly. In those situations, what is to be done, Gurudev?

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here. But at least may it suffice for me to say for now that Gayatri taught me what it means to be a soft-hearted devotee of the Lord and she gave me my first cooking lesson, teaching me how to make cauliflower pakoras, and Amarendra taught me the art of how to preach strongly, intelligently, and coolly to defeat opposing arguments. Who is this Krishna?

Krishna is not a myth, nor is He an ordinary historical personality. He is the Supreme All-Attractive Personality of Godhead. He is the oldest of all while simultaneously maintaining the form of a 16 year old youth.
