How Wonderful to Be a Sadhu

If we want actual happiness we have to learn how to become sadhus, saintly persons. Their qualities are described as follows in the Srimad Bhagavatam 3.25.21-23:

"The symptoms of a sadhu are that he is tolerant, merciful and friendly to all living entities. He has no enemies, he is peaceful, he abides by the scriptures, and all his characteristics are sublime. Such a sadhu engages in staunch devotional service to the Lord without deviation. For the sake of the Lord he renounces all other connections, such as family relationships and friendly acquaintances within the world. Engaged constantly in chanting and hearing about Me, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the sadhus do not suffer from material miseries because they are always filled with thoughts of My pastimes and activities."

Just see how wonderful it is to be a sadhu. You become free from all material miseries. Who in their right mind would not want to become a sadhu?

Question: Why Do Good People Suffer and Bad People Enjoy?

I like your posts and am thankful to you for shaping many lives through Lord Krishna's teaching. I have a question: "Why do good people suffer a lot while bad people enjoy a lot?" I have seen many persons who think they are smart because they have cheated and troubled others' lives. I have heard it said that nothing bad happens to bad persons in this materialistic age of Kali. So I want to ask you what to do. Should I be good and do good and suffer, or should I be bad person and enjoy?

Answer: The Demoniac Suffer While the Devotees Enjoy

You should be good and enjoy unlimitedy by engaging yourself fully in Krishna consciousness. Why?

A sinful person may think that he is enjoying and look like he is enjoying, but his enjoyment is an illusion because death is going to capture him very soon, and he will be severely punished for all of his sinful activities. On the other hand a devotee of the Lord may appear to be suffering and may sometimes even think that he is suffering, but very soon he will be liberated from all suffering conditions when he is transported by Krishna to His supreme abode, Krishnaloka, in the wondrous spiritual sky.

So if you can think you can enjoy more by being a sinful person rather than a devotee of the Lord, you can try it. But I can guarantee you this: Your so-called enjoyment will be short-lived, and then you will suffer like anything in abode of Yamaraja and in the lower species of life such as the plants and animals birth after birth.
