Should I Be Alive or Dead?

The life and soul of the disciple is to serve the order of his spiritual master. Anything other than serving one's guru is death. Our spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada, instructed us as follows in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 4.30.37:

"There are two kinds of devotees. One is called gosthānandī and the other bhajanānandī. The word bhajanānandī refers to the devotee who does not move, but remains in one place. Such a devotee is always engaged in the devotional service of the Lord. He chants the mahā-mantra as taught by many ācāryas and sometimes goes out for preaching work. The gosthānandī is one who desires to increase the number of devotees all over the world. He travels all over the world just to purify the world and the people residing in it. Caitanya Mahāprabhu advised:

prthivīte āche yata nagarādi grāma
sarvatra pracāra haibe mora nāma

Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu wanted His followers to move all over the world to preach in every town and village. In the Caitanya-sampradāya those who strictly follow the principles of Lord Caitanya must travel all over the world to preach the message of Lord Caitanya, which is the same as preaching the words of Krishna—Bhagavad-gītā—and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. The more the devotees preach the principles of krishna-kathā, the more people throughout the world will benefit."

Sometimes I am criticized that I travel too much, that since I am married I should stay in one place as a bhajanānandī. But Srila Prabhupada clearly states that Lord Caitanya wants all of His followers to be gosthānandīs by traveling all over the world to preach the science of Krishna consciousness. So I am sorry if my critics are disturbed by my traveling and preaching. But what can I do? I must obey the order of my spiritual master. Otherwise I am a dead man.

Question: Love is Only for Krishna?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All Glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Srila Prabhupada has written in his books: Love is only for Krishna. Sometimes he has also written that a mother loves her child. These two statements seems to be contradictory. Please explain.

Your eternal servant,
Shashank

Answer: Love Everyone by Loving Krishna

It is true that we should give all of our love to Krishna. This is secret of how to immediately all living beings because when you water the root of a tree, you automatically water the entire tree. Krishna is the root of all existence, so when you give you give your love to Krishna you automatically love everyone. If you channel your love otherwise, it always remains imperfect and incomplete.

The mother’s love for the child is a mundane example given by Srila Prabhupada of the closest thing in this material world to pure selfless, love of God because the mother faithfully serves the child 24 hours a day even though the child is torturing her in so many ways. But even that love is not completely pure because she is thinking that when the child grows up she will derive some benefit from him. Real love means with no thought of ever receiving anything in return. Therefore even though the mother's love is the best example of love in this world, it is not on the level of pure love of God.
