Curing the Terrorism Disease

Millions and billions of dollars are currently being wasted every year in an attempt to curb down the terrorism disease, which is more and more and menacing the human society. This horrendous waste of energy is going on because the government leaders have no understanding at all of what is the cause of terrorism.

When a human being does not try to awaken his dormant enlightened consciousness he is on the platform of an animal. This is the state of the modern day animalistic civilization. We live in a world that is 99.99% populated with animals. In a world of animals it is natural that some of them will be ferocious like the lions and tigers. If we want to put a stop the terrorism the only solution is to elevate the world society to the human platform by teaching them the ultimate self-realization science. As soon as this is done we will see that immediately that the terrorism disease will be cured.

Question: Why Poison in the Beginning?

In the "Thought for the Day" of 13th July you have observed that "happiness in the mode of goodness is poison in the beginning and nectar at the end". Why should it at all be poison in the beginning? Kindly enlighten me on this.

Ramanuja Dasa

Answer: Contamination of Passion and Ignorance

In the Bhagavad-gita Krishna describes happiness in the mode of goodness as poison in the beginning and nectar in the end. Of course, in one sense it is not actually poison. It simply appears as such to one who is still contaminated by the modes of passion and ignorance.

For example, in the beginning of practicing Krishna consciousness rising early every morning by 4 am to attend mangala-arati may appear like poison, if the neophyte devotee is habituated to sleeping in every day until 7 am. But once he becomes accustomed to rising by 4 am he will experience it as the sweetest nectar and never want to give it up.

Editor's Note: Mangala-arati is the first worship service of the day as observed by devotees of Krishna either in the temple or in their home.
