Question: Am I Controlled or Free?

I have a question to ask regarding the introduction to Bhagavad-gita. Srila Prabhupada mentions the five basic truths explained in Bhagavad-gita: Isvara, the jivas, material nature, time and karma. He says that Isvara is the Supreme controller and the jivas are controlled. He then says, "If a living entity says that he is not controlled but that he is free, then he is insane." I think maybe I fall into this category! I am wondering how exactly I am controlled and to what extent. I thought, to be honest, I was free, at least theoretically. He then says, "The living being is controlled in every respect, at least in his conditioned state." I also find this hard to gather as I thought it is explained that we have free will.

Thanks for the clarifications.
Yours sincerely,

Answer: We Can Choose Freedom or Captivity

The living being eternally possesses the free will to either serve Krishna or maya. When he opts for maya he remains stringently under the grip of maya with no freedom until he uses his free will to decide that he wants to no longer be a captive of maya, that he now wants to return to his liberated position as an eternal servitor of the supreme Lord in His divine pastimes in the spiritual sky.
