Our consciousness is developed by the company that we keep. Therefore if we are serious about becoming purified from all material contamination and reviving our original enlightened consciousness, we should associate with pure devotees of Krishna as much as possible. By hearing, inquiring from, and serving great devotees the nature of the transcendentalist will become very attractive to us, and we will naturally pursue the path of self-realization with great enthusiasm for attaining the ultimate perfection of pure devotion.

Request: Tone Down Initiation Requirements

Dear Gurudeva,

All obeisances unto you. You have stated the importance of initiation. But initiation comes with conditions attached. There should be no pre-conditions for initiation. Then only will neophytes like me me dare to get initiated. I would like for you to tone down the minimum requirements for initiation. I am looking forward to getting initiated from you during your Mumbai visit at the end of the year. Would you oblige me with initiation?

Answer: Initiation Means Accept Instructions

Initiation means the disciple agrees to accept the instructions of the spiritual master. It does mean that the spiritual master agrees to accept the instructions of the disciple. If you do not agree to accept my instructions, there is no meaning to initiation. Thousands of people all over the world are being initiated every year into our sampradaya. They do not find the requirements to be prohibitive. Rather they find that the requirements liberate them from bondage to the cycle of birth and death. I would like very much to accept you as my disciple and deliver you from all anxieties, but without you doing your part by giving up sinful activities and chanting the holy names of God it will not be possible for me to deliver you.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here. But at least may it suffice for me to say for now that Gayatri taught me what it means to be a soft-hearted devotee of the Lord and she gave me my first cooking lesson, teaching me how to make cauliflower pakoras, and Amarendra taught me the art of how to preach strongly, intelligently, and coolly to defeat opposing arguments.
