Question: What is the Meaning of Initiation?

What does it exactly mean to get initiated by a bona fide spiritual master? What happens after you get initiated? I was once told by someone that if you get initiated by a bona fide guru, then you also become a guru. Could you please clarify this for me and explain what it means to get initiated?

Answer: Agreeing to Abide by Your Guru's Orders

Initiation is when the spiritual master formally accepts you as his disciple, you then vow to abide by the orders of the spiritual master, and the spiritual master commits himself to delivering you back to home, back to Godhead. You promise to chant at least 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mahamantra every day on japa mala beads while strictly avoiding illicit sex, meat eating, intoxication, and gambling. It is through this process of initiation that you receive the seed of bhakti within your heart and seriously begin the process of awakening your dormant Krishna consciousness. When you become advanced in Krishna consciousness by strictly following the orders of your spiritual master you become competent to also become a spiritual master for spreading the Krishna consciousness movement all over the world.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here.
