Well-wishing Friend of All

We have no greater friend than the devotee of the Lord. Why is that? Krishna declares Himself in the Bhagavad-gita as the best friend of all living beings, and His devotee is His pure representative. Therefore just as Krishna is the best friend, His devotee is also the best friend because in all ways he simply acts as the Lord's messenger. So there is nothing more beneficial for our spiritual life than to take shelter of the Lord's devotee. By doing so we come into immediate contact with the Lord and all of our anxieties of material existence are quickly extinguished. The devotee is the well-wishing friend of all. He fully dedicates his life for sharing Krishna with the entire world.

Question: Janmastami Prayer

My obeisances to you!

Shall we pray on Janmastami for everyone to become a pure devotee of Krishna?

Gayathri

Answer: First Save Ourselves, then Others

Praying on Janmastami for everyone to become a pure devote is very nice. But we must not forget that if we want such praying to be potent, we must first become fixed up in pure devotional service ourselves. So our first business is to fully absorb ourselves in purely chanting the Hare Krishna mantra regularly at least 16 rounds every day under the guidance of the bona fide spiritual master. After fixing our minds in this way in the mood of pure bhakti we may then chant the following prayer for the benefit of all living beings throughout the universe:

svasty astu viśvasya khalaḥ prasīdatāṁ
dhyāyantu bhūtāni śivaṁ mitho dhiyā
manaś ca bhadraṁ bhajatād adhokṣaje
āveśyatāṁ no matir apy ahaitukī

"May there be good fortune throughout the universe, and may all envious persons be pacified. May all living entities become calm by practicing bhakti-yoga, for by accepting devotional service they will think of each other's welfare. Therefore let us all engage in the service of the supreme transcendence, Lord Sri Krishna, and always remain absorbed in thought of Him. "
