The Proud Prideless Devotee

While a devotee is never proud of himself, choosing to always remain meek and humble, he is nevertheless very proud of so many things. He is proud of His wonderful Lord Sri Krishna, who is constantly showering unlimited mercy upon all living beings. He is the proud of his spiritual master, who is delivering him from the cycle of birth death. He is proud of the devotees who are sacrificing their lives to push forward the Krishna consciousness movement for the benefit of all living beings. He greatly loves his Krishna consciousness culture knowing it to be the prime benediction for humanity at large and thus proudly advertises it to the world by wearing tilaka and Vaisnava clothing wherever he goes. He joyfully joins the harinam sankirtan party to dance and sing the Hare Krishna mantra on the city streets. He approaches everyone with transcendental literatures describing the science of Krishna consciousness to give them the opportunity to be delivered from the cycle of birth and death. In short, he is greatly proud about everything related to Krishna except for one thing, himself. And he intensely prays for that day when he can factually become Krishna conscious.

Question: See God by Becoming His Friend?

Please accept my humble obeisances

I would like to ask you following question:

Is it true that the biggest qualification to see God is the eagerness and determination to become His friend?

Regards,
Sunil

Answer: No. By Becoming His Servant We See God.

No. Friend means on an equal level. If we want to see God we must subordinate ourselves to Him as His humble servants. It is only when Arjuna gave up the mood of being Krishna's friend and accepted Him as His spiritual master that he become transcendentally enlightened and become free from illusion and bewilderment. In the Bhagavad-gita Krishna directly orders that we should surrender to Him.

sarva-dharmān parityajya
mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja
ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo
mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ

"Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear."
--Bhagavad-gita 18.66

This is the formula for becoming qualified to see God at every moment.
