When you have Krishna, you have everything. Anything else you have may in this world is slipping through your fingers. Today you may have it, but tomorrow you lose it. Even if you are the most powerful, influential, and wealthy person in the entire universe, your position is only temporary. When all is said and done there is only one thing that you can really possess, and that is your Krishna consciousness. Therefore there is nothing more important than awakening the Krishna consciousness that is now sleeping in your heart.

Question: How to Work & Be Krishna Conscious?

I have a doubt...Earning money is essential to be able to live a decent life. But earning means going into a company and working with the materialistic people involved in politics, cheating, jealously and other negative emotions. When we spend 10-12 hrs in such a environment it certainly contaminates our mind and is very very disturbing.

I am in a dilemma...I have to earn money but at the same time I do not want to work within such a contaminated work culture. What do I do? Where do I work? Please help.

About me...I have been working in a multi-national corporation as an assistant manager for the past 5.5 years, and the way we are treated is very disrespectful. I find it difficult to accept being treated like this or see anyone being treated with disrespect. I have therefore been on leave without pay for the last 5-6 months. But then I have to earn. But I can't even go back to such a culture where people are only concerned with money, promotions and are not even decent human beings.

Please advise.

Answer: Work at Your Present Job for Krishna

Arjuna also wanted to quit his job. A battlefield would not seem to be the best place for transcendental meditation on the Supreme Lord. But yet Krishna ordered him that he must execute his professional duty and offer the results of his work to Krishna.

You are like Arjuna in the beginning of the Bhagavad-gita. You have dropped your bow and arrows and you are refusing to fight for the sake of so-called Krishna consciousness. You are forgetting that real Krishna consciousness is to execute the service given to you by Krishna or His representative, the bona fide spiritual master, and offer the results of your work to Krishna.

Therefore my best advice to you is that you must resume your job and chant nicely at least 16 rounds of Hare Krishna japa mala every day before going to your office. You must also strictly avoid illicit sex, intoxication, meat eating, and gambling. If you will seriously chant and follow these principles, you will be fully protected from the material energy even though you have to spend many hours at work every day. In this way by good sadhana and by performing the austerity of your job for Krishna, you will make steady advancement in Krishna consciousness.

If we work only for ourselves, no job will be satisfying. But when we work for Krishna, any job will be satisfying.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee.
