A Krishna conscious person has no interest in worldly affairs. He simply wants to peacefully absorb himself in Krishna consciousness. But when he sees that the entire human civilization is being dragged through countless miseries due to the misguidance of materialistic, greedy men, his spirit of compassion impels him to exert his influence as much as possible for bringing about positive change in the world. It breaks his heart to see people needlessly suffering, and he therefore fully dedicates his life for enlightening the general population with the liberating knowledge of the ultimate self-realization science, the science of Krishna consciousness.

Answer: Pray Our Way Back to the Spiritual World

Our Hare Krishna prayer, the mahamantra, is not a material cure for getting rid of the swine flu or any of the unlimited types of sufferings that are going on every day here in this material world. Our chanting is for getting out of this material world, for going back to the spiritual world where the swine flu and all other types of material miseries are conspicuous by their absence. In other words, the miseries of the material world will always be here because this is the world of misery. One who wants to become free from all miseries should fully qualify himself to go back to the abode of Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. It is not that by prayer the material miseries will stop. No. Rather it is by sincerely praying to serve the Lord that we will escape this world of miseries and attain eternity, knowledge, and bliss in the spiritual sky.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here. But at least may it suffice for me to say for now that Gayatri taught me what it means to be a soft-hearted devotee of the Lord and she gave me my first cooking lesson, teaching me how to make cauliflower pakoras, and Amarendra taught me the art of how to preach strongly, intelligently, and coolly to defeat opposing arguments. He is the oldest of all while simultaneously maintaining the form of a 16 year old youth.
