Is Ignorance Bliss?

There is a saying: It is folly to be wise in that place where ignorance is bliss. We can see practically how true this is. In this world 99.99% of the population is deeply engrossed in the ignorance of misidentification with their material bodies. Everywhere we see propaganda promoting the illusory concept that one can be happy by material sense gratification. And what do people think about those who take to the path of self realization? They consider them to be foolish. So it is a fact that real wisdom is taken to be folly in that place where ignorance is bliss.

We then have a choice. We can go along with flow of the material society and be a fool and a rascal like everyone else, or we can dare to be different even at the risk of being considered weird or crazy. One has to consider what is ultimately beneficial for one's eternal well being and then do the needful.

My name, Sankarshan Das, was given to me by my spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada on August 12, 1971, the day that he accepted me as his eternal disciple. Sankarshan is a name for God, and Das means servant. This particular name for God, Sankarshan, means "He Who attracts all living beings." So I am the servant of that Supreme Personality of Godhead Who attracts all living beings throughout the totality of existence. It is a very wonderful and special name for God. I am praying to that all-attractive Supreme Person, Sankarshan, that all living beings throughout the universe will now become attracted to join this Krishna consciousness movement.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here. But at least may it suffice for me to say for now that Gayatri taught me what it means to be a soft-hearted devotee of the Lord and she gave me my first cooking lesson, teaching me how to make cauliflower pakoras, and Amarendra taught me the art of how to preach strongly, intelligently, and coolly to defeat opposing arguments. Krishna is not a myth, nor is He an ordinary historical personality. He is the Supreme All-Attractive Personality of Godhead. He is the oldest of all while simultaneously maintaining the form of a 16 year old youth.
