The Perfection of Existence

20 March 2009--This morning at 4:10 a.m. on my first morning in Vrindavan I was blessed with the most sublime opportunity to lead over 100 devotees in the the chanting of the Gurvastakam prayers for Srila Prabhupada during the mangala arati kirtan in his samadhi mandir (pictured below). It was really a heart warming sublime experience. Such activities are the perfection of existence for a disciple--to be fully absorbed in glorifying his spiritual master and carrying out his orders. The reason such activities are so wonderful is that by the mercy of Lord Krishna the spiritual master is present wherever his disciples are glorifying him and serving his instructions. When the disciple feels the presence of his spiritual master he naturally becomes free from all anxiety because the spiritual master's presence elevates the consciousness of the disciple beyond this material world.

Guru, sadhu, and sastra all say that we should surrender to devotees and serve them with our heart and soul. But if love is not there, surrender and service is artificially forced by the devotee on himself. It's really very important to develop love for devotees. How to develop that love?

Answer: Dutiful Service Extracts Love

Just as in the desert if you drill deep enough into the earth you will eventually find water, in the same way buried deep within your heart is pure love for Lord Krishna and His devotees. The drilling process to bring that love out from your heart is to dutifully serve the devotees to the best of your ability. In this way by faithfully serving the devotees according to the instructions you have received from the spiritual master you will gradually experience a reawakening of the natural loving feeling for Krishna, Vaisnavas, and all living entities. Our love for the living entities in general is manifest as the desire to deliver them back to home, back to Godhead.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here. But at least may it suffice for me to say for now that Gayatri taught me what it means to be a soft-hearted devotee of the Lord and she gave me my first cooking lesson, teaching me how to make cauliflower pakoras, and Amarendra taught me the art of how to preach strongly, intelligently, and coolly to defeat opposing arguments. Krishna is not a myth, nor is He an ordinary historical personality. He is the Supreme All-Attractive Personality of Godhead. He is the oldest of all while simultaneously maintaining the form of a 16 year old youth.
